Smells Like Mean Spirit: Season 3 episode 1 Ted Lasso

After an extended break, Ted Lasso is back with season 3 and the opener “Smells like mean spirit” in an ode to Nirvana.

Immediately we are introduced to a zoned out, depressed Ted Lasso as he sits in London’s Heathrow’s airport next to his son, Henry. The PA is blaring for Ted’s son’s final boarding call as Ted comes back to reality after 6 weeks has passed spending time with his son. Ted’s wit is immediately reintroduced to the gate agent as he says goodbye to his son, and the episode is off to a somber start.

Without hesitation, the heat is immediately brought in this episode. We see both Ted Lasso and his son, Henry, immediately bringing the heat with some Nike Jordan sneakers. However, this does not last much throughout the episode. There are only a few instances where we see Jason Sudeikis with heat, and we even see repeats from last year already. There are some new pairs that find their way in such as the Nike Jordan 1 Low Mocha’s, but we will have to hope to see some more in later episodes.

Ted says goodbye to his son and calls up Dr. Sharon Fieldstone, AFC Richmonds previous team therapist. They kick off talking about his son’s visit, the usual family banter and show how their relationship has grown although she has moved on to another team. The players and executives of AFC Richmond prepare for promotion back to the Premier League. The media has collectively predicted the club to finish dead last. Rebecca allows her hatred for Rupert, her ex-husband and owner of West Ham, to cloud her judgement, asking Ted to get angry about the predictions.

Ted brings the distracted squad into the sewers of London for a lesson about letting negative “poopy” wash away and not allowing it to bring them down. New West Ham manager Nathan Shelley begins life West Ham, and shows his cruel new personality.

Nathan takes a dig at Ted in his first press conference, much to the delight of Rupert, but Ted responds with his trademark kindness, reminding Rebecca of his unwavering nature, as Keeley advises her to “let Ted be Ted.” Rupert buys Nathan a new car which feels like an introduction to mounting expectations, while Roy and Keeley tell young Phoebe they are breaking up because they’re “too busy.”
